for the TEACHER Therapy Group

Group Therapy has unique benefits that may interest you in a therapeutic setting. LivingRoom Wellness believes in small groups, strong connections, and client-led sessions. The group sets the goals in a safe, confidential, inclusive space.

1)  Support. You share your experiences and stories and get feedback and validation from the therapist and group members.

2) Secure. The therapeutic space is one where you can openly share your experiences, knowing that the stories stay in the room. You may have felt like you have been gaslit many times when telling your story and not felt heard. Group therapy allows you to be recognized, understood, and validated.

3) Externalize. When you are in a Group and you hear the challenges of other people who have similar problems to your own, you can feel less alone in your burdens. It may be easier to understand the scope of the challenge and recognize that YOU are not the problem but circumstances, experiences, relationships, etc.

4. Rediscover. Sometimes, challenges can cause you to lose part of your sense of self. In Group Therapy, you control how much you sit forward and participate and how much you put your feet up and observe. All the while, you are taking it all in, reflecting, and remembering a lot about yourself. In doing this, the goal is rediscovery, finding your authentic self and developing a plan for how you want to move forward in a sense-making way.

5. Empower. Through the process, you help others realize the strengths within themselves that they may need to focus on.  Others will do that for you, too.  Others may share strategies that may align with your belief systems. You can feel empowered to share successes you have had that might help someone else in the group. Collaboratively, the group can build each other up.

LivingRoom Wellness is situated upon the traditional territories of the Erie, Neutral, Huron-Wendat, Haudenosaunee, and Mississaugas. This land is covered by the Dish With One Spoon Wampum Belt Covenant, which was an agreement between the Haudenosaunee and Anishinaabek to share and care for the resources around the Great Lakes. This land is covered by the Between the Lakes Purchase, 1792, between the Crown and the Mississaugas of the Credit First Nation. The region is home to many Indigenous Peoples from across Turtle Island. I strive to do more and learn more about the rich history of this land so that I can better understand roles as a resident, neighbour, collaborater, and caretaker. Furthermore, this learning will deepen my understanding of my privileges as a settler on this territory.
